Peregrin Took (Pippin)

(260 total words in this text)
(1912 Reads)   Printer friendly page

Peregrin (Pippin) Took, a hobbit of the Shire, was born in 2990 Third Age. He is the son of Paladin Took II and Eglantine Banks. Pippin is Frodo's cousin, and the youngest member of the Fellowship of the ring.

With his friend Merry, Pippin was separated from the Company at Parth Galen, and both hobbits were captured by orcs. They escaped into Fangorn Forest, and there came across Treebeard and the Ents. Pippin and Merry roused the Ents to action against Saruman in Isengard

Pippin had his moments of 'curiousity getting the best of him', but was certainly a valuable member of the Fellowship. After the Ents stormed Isengard, Pippin was taken to MInas Tirith by Gandalf, and there swore himself to the service of Denethor II, ruling steward of Gondor. During the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, Pippin discovered (to his horror) that Denethor mistakenly thought his son Faramir was dead, and was going to burn him alive. (along with his own person.) Thanks to Pippin seeking out Gandalf, Faramir was saved.

After the War of the Ring, Peregrin eventually became Thain of the Shire. He built a great library at Great Smials. The Tale of Years was likely prepared at Great Smials, with the help of Merry. Pippin wed Diamond of Long Cleeve, and their son was named Faramir Took I.

In 1484, Pippin (along with Merry) went to Gondor, and spent his remaining years there. In 1541, King Elessar finally laid down his life, and the beds of both Merry and Pippin were set beside the king's own.
